From personal stories to the logistics of what it takes to distribute over 10 million diapers; this episode was packed with insights and inspiration. Read on to find out how Nancy, Marty, and an army of volunteers are making the world a better place, one diaper at a time, with the help of Marty’s signature BACON acronym.

B - Build Bridges, Not Barriers

Keeping Families Covered goes far beyond being a typical charity. Nancy and her team act as a vital bridge between donors and families in need, working with community partners like churches, food banks, foster care organizations, and schools. Instead of waiting for people to come to them, they go out into the community with mobile diaper pantries, delivering essential supplies to neighborhoods where access is limited.

Nancy shared how their outreach efforts are reducing barriers for families who might not have transportation or access to social services. Their mobile diaper pantries stop in towns like Grayslake, Woodstock, and Fox Lake, ensuring every family gets what they need to care for their loved ones with dignity.

A - Action Sparks Joy

It started with a simple act of volunteering for Nancy, who quickly realized how incredibly rewarding it was to provide families with something as basic yet essential as diapers. Nancy recounted a moment that stuck with her forever. A mother, burdened by hardship after her husband left, came to pick up diapers. Initially unable to make eye contact, this mother eventually opened up, sharing that this support gave her the peace of mind to focus on keeping a roof over her children’s heads.

This story isn’t unique; it’s what fuels Keeping Families Covered and its passionate volunteers. Every small action taken creates ripples of joy, not just for recipients, but also for those giving time, effort, or resources.

C - Community Elevates Us All

What’s better than one caring organization? Several working together! Collaboration is at the heart of what Keeping Families Covered does. They team up with nonprofits like CASA, Gigi’s Playhouse, and Kids in Need, creating a stronger support network for families.

Nancy shared how events like their SINGO Night, co-hosted with these organizations, help bridge gaps, raise funds, and foster incredible community connections. It’s not charity; it’s solidarity. When one group rises, they all rise together. The result? A thriving ecosystem of care and compassion.

O - One Small Act Can Change a Life

Picture this: Five families each provide five unused diapers, and just like that, a baby has 25 clean, dry days of comfort and hygiene. Nancy emphasized that no donation is too small. Whether it’s a couple of dollars, a few diapers, or even used adult incontinence products, everything contributes to bridging the gap for families in need.

Get this, Keeping Families Covered has distributed over 10 million diapers since its inception! That’s 10 million instances of lives being changed and families being supported, one diaper at a time.

N - Necessities with Love

At its core, Keeping Families Covered isn’t just about providing products. It’s about dignity and love. They specialize in diapers and also provide menstrual products and adult incontinence supplies. These necessities, often taken for granted, are game changers for the people they serve.

Nancy explained how the organization runs with just a small core team of employees and a network of generous volunteers. From bundling diaper packs to helping distribute goods, these efforts are acts of love, ensuring families know they are not alone in their struggles.

How You Can Help

Nancy put out a call to action that’s hard to ignore:

  • Donate money: With their buying power, they can stretch cash donations further than you think.

  • Host a diaper drive: Collect diapers at your office, school, or community group. Keeping Families Covered even provides resources and pickup assistance!

  • Volunteer your time: Join a “Wrappie Hour” and help bundle diapers for distribution.

  • Raise awareness: Simply sharing their story on social media can bring more people into the mission.
