This week, Marty welcomed back his good friend Frank, a restaurant veteran with years of hands-on leadership under his belt. B — Boundaries

Fences make good neighbors, and boundaries make good coworkers. If your manager fires off emails at eleven at night, you do not have to reply until morning. Marty makes it clear: you can bend the rules because you believe in the mission, but you cannot be at anyone's beck and call twenty-four hours a day.


Takeaway: Verbalize your limits. Saying "I have family time and work time" is not selfish, it is sustainable.


A — Address

Do not let resentment quietly rot your attitude. Approach the person directly, one-on-one, before escalating. And use "I" statements: "I feel overwhelmed when projects land on my desk at the last minute."


As Marty explains, "you" statements start fights, while "I" statements start conversations. Often the other person had no idea their behavior stung and that clarity changes everything.

C — Chronicle

Your memory is not enough. Write things down. Save the emails. Note the date and the details right after a tough meeting.

N — Neutralize
